Khodrocar - In February this year, we reported the brands from the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles portfolio will move to Alfa Romeo’s Giorgio platform for the next generations of its core models. However, a new report from Automotive News claims Dodge has ditched its initial plans and will use the architecture that will underpin the new Maserati Ghibli.
According to the publication, both the current Challenger and Charger will be refreshed one final time in 2019, while completely new generations are expected in 2021. That’s the moment when the two models will move to Maserati’s platform, abandoning their current architectures. Until that happens, both vehicles will receive special models to keep customers’ interest high.
As for the rest of Dodge’s range, the Journey will move to the Giorgio RWD platform for its next generation, expected to hit the market in 2019. It will be produced in Italy and will become FCA’s most driver-focused SUV, borrowing some of its engines from the Alfa Romeo Stelvio.

Dodge’s lineup will be simplified in the next few years, as we won’t see a direct successors for the already discontinued Viper and the Dart sedan. In addition, the fate of the rumored Barracuda convertible is unknown at the moment because of the switch in the Charger and Challenger duo’s platform strategies.
