In the mid-1990s, the South Korean government focused its support on the automotive industry on the transfer of automotive technology and knowledge into Korea.
Khodrocar - The Korean automotive industry was made up of start-ups that wanted to compete with foreign automakers, some with nearly 100 years of experience. They had to compete, and this was not possible except with heavy investment in research and development. In this regard, the South Korean government provided special scholarships to students who wanted to study automotive engineering.

Apart from this, the Korean government provided assistance to companies that wanted to establish research and development centers. Hyundai was the first company to take this step. He first set up a well-equipped research and development center inside Korea and near Seoul.

He then established his first R&D center in Erwin, California, to work with foreign engineers who were unwilling to come to Korea. Engineers at the center built their first concept model, the HDC1, for Hyundai, which was a huge success for the company.

Shortly afterwards, Hyundai unveiled its second concept model, the HDC2, and based on that, Hyundai launched the Tiberon in 1996, which was the company's first serious step into the coupe market.

While Hyundai had succeeded in designing its own concept models, other Korean companies also introduced new models based on the old production formula. SsangYong began working with Germany's Daimler Benz, unveiling first the first generation Musso and then the second generation Korando. The cars, designed by British designer Kane Greenley, used two Mercedes-Benz 2300 and 3200 cc engines.

SsangYong also introduced a luxury car model called the Chirman, which was based on the Mercedes-Benz E-Series platform in the 1980s. Chirman was, in a way, the first attempt by Korean automakers to produce luxury cars.

Samsung Holding previously operated in the electronics and shipbuilding industries and decided to start a car business with the Japanese company Nissan, but from the beginning there were problems for Samsung Motor Company and made the company's first cars 4 years later.

Daewoo also developed a second-generation racer called the Daewoo C-Yellow or Nexia based on the Opel Cadet platform. At the same time as launching the car in Korea, Daewoo began production in several countries, including Uzbekistan, Romania, Egypt, Poland and Iran.

The assembly of this car in Iran was the responsibility of Kerman Automotive Industries Company. Daewoo took over in Iran.

The process of building the factories of this company started in 1994 in Bam and the first silages produced in Iran were introduced to the market in 1996. At the same time, Iran Khodro Company established its research and development center. One year later, Saipa Industrial Research and Innovation Center was opened.

The opening of these centers meant that the managers of Iran's automotive industry also realized that the lack of research and development is one of the weaknesses of the automotive industry in Iran, and now with the establishment of these centers sought to eliminate this problem, but the attention of Iranian automakers in this sector It was in no way comparable to Korean automakers, and although Iranian companies grew rapidly in the manufacturing sector in the following years, they did not invest much in R&D, so the activities of these centers always made minor changes. It was limited to the production cars of these companies.

Perhaps it is safe to say that one of the reasons that caused the difference between the Iranian and Korean automakers was the belief of Korean automotive managers in the subject of research and development and heavy investment in this sector, while in contrast to Iranian automotive industry managers wasted investment in this sector. The sources knew.

The first product of Iran Khodro Research Center was Peugeot Ardi. Iran Khodro was looking to expand its product portfolio and planned to produce a cheaper car than the Peugeot 405 and offer it around the Pride price. For this reason, with the approval of Peugeot and the cooperation of the engineers of this French company, it put the driving forces of Peykan on the body of 405.
