While the model of joint cooperation between the automotive industry and foreign partners has always been controversial, experts in this field believe that if the capital of these companies was tied to the Iranian automotive industry, their commitment to cooperation with Iran would be deeper and they would easily leave Iran. They did not exist, so just having a production line or internalizing parts can’t make the automotive industry successful in cooperating with foreign partners.
Khodrocar - Although there are some reasons for Iran to start negotiations with the United States and return to JCPOA, but without a doubt, the automotive industry will be one of the main industries that will be affected by this negotiation. Items that are considered in the return of foreign partners or new partners will be a model of cooperation.

Examination of the past cooperation model shows that due to the lack of deep influence of foreign companies in the Iranian car industry, these companies have easily left the Iranian car market by imposing sanctions and restrictions on cooperation, for example, leaving a Foreign quasi-companies have been created despite investments and even commitments.

So in the current situation where companies have been able to reduce the effects of sanctions to some extent by increasing the depth of domestic production, the question arises that what is the best model of cooperation with foreign partners in the event of a re-establishment?

"The automotive industry in general should be considered and the existing infrastructure in the field of parts manufacturing should be considered in order to establish a relationship with a foreign partner and have a suitable experience. In the past, contracts were concluded with foreign partners such as Peugeot and Renault. High manufacturing was included, but this experience showed that domestic manufacturing alone is not a component of the presence or absence of an external partner.” Mohammad Zarabian, manager of Bahman Motor told khodrocar reporter.

"What contributes to the presence, absence or adherence of an outside party is that in the field of automotive we need to connect with global automakers and be in their chain.” He added.

"If a foreign investor or automaker has a direct investment in Iran and also promotes a domestic manufacturing project, its capital will be tied to the Iranian market, so it is not enough to have a working CKD or increase domestic production. It can guarantee the presence of a foreign automaker, because he will be committed to Iran when his capital is in Iran. In this situation, this issue will be effective even in political issues, because political economy is the first word in the world.” He continued.

"A look at the world automotive experience shows that the global automakers present in China, with all the obstacles, problems and tensions that exist, but are not willing to leave this country because they have made a heavy investment in this country, so it seems that if We want to adhere to foreign automakers, we must provide the conditions for their investment and real participation.” He said.

"Unsuccessful experiences and weaknesses in this cooperation should be examined and a suitable solution should be considered for it.” He said.

Zarabian believes that if the reasons for leaving foreign partners are identified, despite the investment, a new model of cooperation with foreign partners can be taken.
