Arguably the first genuinely exciting vehicle to wear the Kia badge – the Kia Stinger – hasn’t even gone on sale in the U.S. yet, but has already found itself swapping paint with a Toyota RAV4. While the Toyota looks hilarious on its two left feet, it’s hard to look at the poor Stinger’s crippled body.
Khodrocar - This unfortunate scene occurred on a low-traffic, Washington, D.C. street, according to the neighborhood blog, Popville. How did the red Toyota taxi get on top of the South Korean beauty you ask? Unfortunately, the Kia driver caused the crash.
Jalopnik reported the Stinger was stopped in a parallel-parking spot and the driver presumably didn’t look while pulling out onto the road. Meanwhile, the RAV4 taxi was driving by and didn’t have enough time to avoid the Stinger – causing the Toyota to drive on top of it.
A witness also claimed both cars stayed in this funny and heartbreaking embrace for two to three hours before separating. A tow truck later arrived to hold up the RAV4 and allowed the Kia to reverse away from the crossover.
Thankfully, both drivers walked away with no physical injuries. The cars however fared slightly worse with some relatively minor damage. In the gallery below, you can see the gray Kia took the brunt of the damage with a bruised and slightly red left front quarter panel. The Toyota only suffered from small scrapes and dents.
The Kia Stinger involved in the accident is apparently owned by the manufacturer, considering it’s not yet for sale and is wearing dealer plates, Jalopnik said.
This crash is particularly painful to look at because the Kia Stinger is not only a sexy-looking vehicle, but also a pretty capable sports sedan. Although it’s not clear which engine this example has, the Stinger can be had with a 3.3-liter biturbo V6 with 365 horsepower (272 kilowatts), or a 2.0-liter inline-four with 255 hp (190 kW).
