Samsung has joined the race to bring self-driving cars to American roads. Reuters is reporting the company now has a permit to test self-driving vehicles in California.
They report South Korean officials gave Samsung a similar permit to test their technology in that country earlier this year.  Reuters says it’s not clear what exactly Samsung intends to try out in the U.S., but the company told them they have "no plans to enter the car-manufacturing business.” Other tech companies are also testing their self-driving products on U.S. roads.

Luxury hands free driving comes at a price.  Automotive News is reporting Cadillac CT6 models with the Super Cruise semiautonomous driving system will start at about $71,300.  The Cadillac system allows the driver to take their hands off the steering wheel, while a small camera watches their head position to make sure they’re paying attention to the road.  Automotive News says the $5,000 option will be available beginning this fall and will be standard on the CT6 Platinum model.

It’s not just about driving anymore.  It’s also about staying connected. In order to keep up with the just released 2018 Honda Odyssey, Chrysler is debuting 4G LTE network connectivity in the upgraded Uconnect 4C NAV system in the 2018 Pacifica.  They say the in-vehicle Wi-Fi Hotspot can connect up to eight mobile devices.
