It has been for years that Japan is placed between the five top automakers in the world. However, this country is one of the bests in motorcycle industry; But why is that?
Khodrocar – United Stated defeated Japan in the "World War II” and implemented tough sanction against this this country. That was the time, when Japanese engineers switched from cars to motorcycle industry.

This concentration led to Japan’s huge progression in motorcycle industry and in 60s this country turned into one of the best motorcycle makers in the world. The peak of its flourishing began in the 1970s.

This huge progression was so fast that Honda, Suzuki, Kawasaki and Yamaha soon made a name for themselves in the world and named "Big 4”. Today, these four motorcycle brands have about 50 percent of the global motorcycle market share in different segments. How is that possible?

1- Sanctions
With US sanction, the Japanese engineers had no choice but to concentrate on motorcycle industry and their efforts finally worked.

2- Close Competition
Japanese motorcycle manufacturers were in a close competition with their European rivals and that was the key for progression. Hard competitions like IOM TT and Grand Prix were the reasons for their progression in this industry. Nowadays, Japanese motorcycles earn most of motorcycle racing wins.

3- Complete Portfolio
The competition has always been high in SBK and SS segments. But the truth is that motorcycles have a prominent role in everyday life as an economical, inexpensive and functional vehicles, so the "Big 4” are completing their portfolio with producing motorcycles with under 250 cc engine displacements. The result is that these four companies are good at producing both racing and urban motorcycles.

4- Multiple Joint Ventures
Producing and export Japanese motorcycles to the countries with pour economy, heavy traffics and high population was another solution. So they decided to ink multiple joint ventures with countries like Vietnam, Indonesia, Taiwan, Pakistan and India. We can see few of them in Iran like Hero, Bajaj and TVS.

The Japanese owe their success to the innovations and excellence that they have gained over the years in industrial activities.

Also, Iran have had the chance to produce economical motorcycles like Japanese but they preferred to just assemble one of the oldest models of Honda called "CG125” with a horrible quality.
