Launching the new traffic plan in Tehran would increase the travel price of online taxis and urban traveling agencies. The question is what is the program of online taxies to keep the competitive market and make benefits for themselves, passengers and drivers?
Khodrocar – the pilot of Tehran traffic plan finally launched on 5th April for 15 days and after one and half month delay. By launching the new traffic plan, annual sales vanished and the price of traffic plan is calculated by the type of vehicle technical inspection and time to enter and exit. The new plan has deactivated the previous program which worked for 30 years and it became the new challenge of online taxies. Online taxies must find a way to manage the challenge of pricing travels in the traffic plan area. However, this challenge could make a competition between online taxi services to offer lower price for traffic plan area travels.
According to the transportation deputy of Tehran municipality, they reached their desired results in the first days of the new traffic plan. Feedbacks shows that the traffic has decreased 10 percent in the main area and decreased 5 percent in the odd and even traffic area. Now we have to observe what will happen to the online taxi services due to the new traffic plan?
"Active companies in the field of intelligent transportation should sync themselves with the new traffic plan. They must manage the prices in order to attract more passengers.” Alireza Eskandari, an expert of intelligent transportation told Khodrocar reporter.
"Before the new traffic plan, online taxi service providers considered some financial supports for those drivers who wanted to enter the traffic plan and that was successful. By launching the new traffic plan, continuing this procedure would have additional costs for the service providers. One option could be removing commission of traffic plan area travels by the mother company. In this situation, the company may reduce the income, but gain more passengers and will have more out of traffic plan area travels.” He added
"The new discounts for entering the traffic plan area like 20 percent discount for vehicles with top technical inspection could reduce the costs of online taxi services. They have to encourage their drivers to take the top technical inspections for their vehicles.” He continued.
Now, we have to wait for the feedbacks of pilot traffic plan to talk about the future of this plan. Head of the municipality said that they would increase the discounts if any problems happen during the pilot. We have to wait and see what will happen to the price of online taxies?
