Last week, the minister of industry, mine and trade defended the current 85-step standards and this is while, few weeks ago, two other statesmen said that they will facilitate these standards.
Khodrocar – In recent weeks, there have been somewhat contradiction statements made by many statesmen for the automotive industry that many experts in the automotive industry are concerned about the future of this industry, because they believe that these contradictions can damage it and could dissuade foreign investors.

These contradictions began last week, when Mohsen Salehinia, deputy minister of industry, mine and trade and Mansour Moazami, CEO of IDRO, talked about facilitation of 85-step standards.

Soon after that, Pirouzbakht, Director of National Standard Organization of Iran insisted on the current standards and told that no changes is going to be made.

After many conflicts about complete implementation, alteration or facilitation of these standards, Pirouzbakht, during a ceremony and with the presence of minister, said that implementation of these standards will start in Juanuary, 2019.

Considering these contradictions, Will the foreign investors have enough motivations to enter and invest in Iran’s car market?

Farbod Zaveh, an automotive industry expert, told Khodrocar regarding the issue: "Paradoxical behaviors, frequent interferences, putting terms and conditions and the behaviors like that can dissuade the foreign investors.”

He continues: "Maybe the Europeans doesn’t have problem with these contradictions, but for the Chinese it matters. Because the Chinese have less potential to reach the 85-step standards than Europeans carmakers.”

Zaveh emphasizes: "The foreign investors don’t risk on such markets.”

It is no surprise that when there are many contradictions and conflict between official authorities on implementing the vehicle standards, it also takes too much time for them to decide about the foreign automotive contracts. It is nearly impossible to get investor confidence in entering the Iranian automotive industry.
