A new eight-speed automatic uses a rotary controller instead of a traditional looking gearshift.
KhodroCar - Ford has refreshed the 2019 Edge by giving the crossover a new face, updated rear, and a boost in power to the base model. At the top of the range, there's a new ST trim that turns up the heat on the existing Sport by giving the hottest Edge more powerful and a meaner look.

The 2019 Edge continues to use Ford's 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, but it now makes 250 horsepower (186 kilowatts) – a 5-hp (4-kW) improvement over last year. An eight-speed automatic puts two more gears at driver's disposal, and Ford promises an improvement in fuel economy. Rather than a traditional stick-shaped gearshift, there's now a rotary knob.

For improved safety, the model comes with more standard driver assists, including forward collision warning, pre-collision assist, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, and automatic high beams.

The Edge has a fresh face, too. There's revised styling for the bars in the grille, and full LED headlights are now standard. A redesigned hood has a more contoured appearance than the current, rather flat styling there. At the rear, Ford adds a black strip of trim below the hatchback's glass, which adds a more visually interesting, two-tone aesthetic back there.

Customers looking for a little more muscle can check out Ford's first use of its ST performance branding on a crossover. Like the existing Sport trim, power comes from a  2.7-liter biturbo V6, but it now makes 335 hp (250 kW) and 380 pound-feet (515 Newton-meters) of torque, versus 315 hp (235 kW) and 350 lb-ft (475 Nm) currently. The eight-speed auto replaces the six-cog unit in the ST, too, and all-wheel drive comes standard. A revised suspension with more aggressive settings accompanies these upgrades, and the Blue Oval offers upgraded brakes as an option.

The ST looks a little different than the rest of the lineup, including mesh in the grille that echoes the piece on the Focus ST. Lower side skirts and a tweaked rear bumper with dual exhaust outlets also communicate the model's sporty intentions. Inside, the seats receive thicker bolsters.

Ford hasn't disclosed pricing or availability of the 2019 Edge, yet. Expect more details to come out at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
