The Nissan Terra, a new SUV based on the Navara ute, has been photographed completely undisguised ahead of its debut.
Khodrocar - Although the photos show a Chinese-market vehicle, complete with simplified Chinese characters on the tailgate, we discovered them on a group of Russian and Ukranian sites, including Auto Centre.
Undisguised pictures of the Navara-based SUV began appearing online around two months ago, but this is our first look at the car’s rear-end design. These images also confirm the name for the Chinese version of the vehicle.
In China, the Terra is said to be available with a 137kW 2.5-litre petrol engine. Buyers can choose between rear- and four-wheel drive variants.
The Terra reportedly measures 4882mm long, 1850mm wide, 1835mm tall, and rides on a 2850mm wheelbase.
Although that makes it considerably shorter from wheel-to-wheel and bumper-to-bumper than the Navara, the Terra is sized appropriately to compete with the Toyota Fortuner, Ford Everest, Holden Trailblazer and Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, among others.
Nissan last used the Terra name in 2012 for a hydrogen fuel cell crossover concept car. The Terra name references both the Terrano and Terrano II SUVs, and the off-road-ready Xterra SUV, sold in the US between 1995 and 2015.
The first-generation Xterra is still sold in China as the Paladin. Like the new Terra, the Xterra was spun off from the contemporary Navara.
It’s not known whether the Terra will be sold outside China, but the Middle East, Asia and Latin America are likely destinations.
Back in May, Richard Emery, then-Nissan Australia CEO, told CarAdvice the SUV was under consideration for our market, although the vehicle was "not a key focus” and "might not suit Australian circumstances”.
